Our Story

Inspired by her brother Jayaraj, who lived with an intellectual disability, G. Sayadevi founded Jayam Trust in 2011 in his memory. Jayaraj was a loving child, but regular schools refused to admit him, and their father, a daily-wage worker, struggled to afford special education.

When Jayaraj finally joined a special school, Sayadevi was devastated to see his hands tied up to restrain his hyperactivity. This experience deeply impacted her, shaping her mission to advocate for children with intellectual disabilities. Determined to bring change, she pursued a B.Ed. in special education and secured the All-India first rank in her diploma course.

Tragically, Jayaraj passed away in her arms at 19. His loss strengthened her resolve to create a safe, nurturing space for children like him – one where they are treated with dignity and care, and are given the right to learn.

Today, Jayam Special School, a unit of Jayam Trust, stands as a beacon of hope, providing quality education and support for children with intellectual disabilities. Sayadevi’s journey is driven by love, resilience, and the belief that every child, regardless of their abilities, deserves a bright future.

Driven by the memory of my brother Jayaraj, I vowed to build a world where children like him are seen, accepted, loved, and cared for — that dream became Jayam.
